What does bootc look like when it's actually running in production, not just in a lab? James Harmison joins the Fedora Podcast to talk about building custom bootc images across wildly different contexts: NVIDIA drivers, AGX Orin hardware with custom kernel RPMs, replacing RHCOS images in OpenShift, and even a stripped-down SteamOS-style couch gaming rig.

Well, I think it's time to call time on my NixOS experiment. I liked the idea of being able to have everything about how I like my system captured and versioned so that I can always reproduce it.

But NixOS is, if nothing else, still very much an experiment. It deviates a lot from how most distros work to deliver on its concept and that had a remarkable tendency to turn every project into a yak shaving expedition where I have to figure out how to do something the NixOS way that I already knew how to do in other linux distributions (no FHS support and no Python VirtualEnvs without a lot of additional faffing about are notable lowlights).

Add that to the fact that since I'm already leaning heavily on Flatpak for most app management (and trying to keep to a minimal OS core) and I'm leaning towards Fedora Atomic + Layering to accomplish what I need. That should get the job done and be much simpler to manage than learning an entirely new programming language dedicated just to configuring my system.

Adios NixOS. It was a fun experiment, but I have my conclusions now.

I've encountered one problem with #Bazzite (#FedoraAtomic) or any OS where all the apps are Flatpaks:

#KeePassXC and #Firefox don't get along. I can't get the browser plugin to find KeepPassXC, and apparently this isn't trivial to set up.

Is there any guidance for solving this issue specifically on a Fedora Atomic system like Bazzite?

The Fedora Atomic documentation is looking pretty good. Lots of nice tips and explainers.

Friends, I've now had my computer malfunction twice in relation to sleep mode. Monitors went rainbow static when the computer was going to sleep and wouldn't recover until hard reset. Did a system update and it went back to sleep a few hours later and it hung on attempt to wake up and gave me black screens until hard reset. Unplugged the monitors from the gpu didn't fix. Does anyone have an idea how I can install the printer drivers for a Brother DCP-115C on #Fedora 43 #Kinoite?

When I try to install the four RPMs from Brother with "rpm-ostree install bprint.rpm ..." I receive the following error message: "opendir(local): No such file or directory"
