There is an entire category of dice games called “Dice 10,000”. I don’t know when they were originally created, but Dix Mille and Farkle seem to be the more common games played of this category.
However, there is the Wyvern of Wessex. In this game, the players are stealing gold from the Wyvern of Wessex! However, the winner of the game will double-cross the other players to keep all of it for themselves. For the game, there will need to be 6 six-sided dice and something to keep score on.
Before we begin, it’s worth mentioning how dice are scored.
- 1s are worth 100 points
- 5s are worth 50 points
- Three of a kind are worth 100 times the face (e.g. three 4’s are worth 400 points). The exception is three of a kind of 1s, which is worth 1,000 points.
- A full house (three of a kind and a distinct two pair) are worth 1,500 points
- Three distinct pairs are worth 1,000 points.
- For four, five, and six of a kind, they are worth one double of the three of a kind points for each die beyond three of a kind. (e.g. five 1s are worth 4,000 points).
Now the scoring is out of the way, let us discuss how game play goes! Determine play order some how. Rolling dice is the common way. On their turn, the player rolls the dice, setting aside dice and scoring them as above. If the player is able to set aside dice for the roll, they may roll again. If they are unable to set aside dice, their turn is over and they score 0 points for the turn. At any time, a player may stand on their score. When their turn is over, add their points to the common score. The player pushing the score up to or beyond 10,000 points wins the game!
