@limepeep @thomasfuchs It could be argued that 3rd party #ads are by their very nature, unethical.

If website owners agree to display ads which they have no control over and which could be promoting the exact opposite of their values, doesn't that mean that they care about $$ more than the products/causes the ads are promoting?

Or do the ad platforms let content creators choose what ad topics and keywords to disallow?

Simply not true. You still have to ask before loading the ad, because you are sending the clients IP to the ad server. #GDPR and so on is not about cookies, it's about personal data and IP is personal data.

Now I need to learn how to mark #EthicalAds and #Gumroad payments in my #accounting. When I get money from these companies, is it like they're buying something from me? I've been trying to find out how to do it correctly but there's surprisingly few sources online for this, especially in #Finnish. Any ideas? Where's the #accountant fediverse? :D

Since donations are illegal in my country, I cannot have a #Patreon or #GitHubSponsors. So I've spent time and effort integrating #Gumroad payments and #EthicalAds for my service, neither of which I would have had to do if the law wasn't so stupid.

Now it feels ready, but I'm scared to deploy it, because it deals with people's money and I'm afraid of making mistakes there. Annoying.

Has anyone worked with #EthicalAds by #ReadTheDocs and can tell me how the `data-ea-force-ad` attribute should be used? I can't get it to show anything and I don't want paid ads to pop up when I'm testing changes locally.
