"I can barely scroll TikTok or Instagram these days without coming across a post about the latest laundry trend—snow washing, or #snötvätt in Swedish. This traditional cleaning method is sort of like taking your #wool clothing, blankets, and rugs to #MotherNature’s #DryCleaner.

"It’s free, completely natural, and nothing new to those who live in Nordic countries. Many knitters are hip to the process too. But everyone else might be wondering, does this really work?

"Enter Fran Kozen and Larissa Shepherd, experts in fiber science and apparel design at #CornellUniversity who are demystifying the trend—and as it turns out, it’s a really good one."

From my work trip to Oroville, CA a couple weeks ago, or so. I drove by this old, abandoned dry cleaner shop several times over the course of a couple days. I wanted to stop and take photos. "Spare a thought for dry cleaners during #coronavirus."

No. We will not.

If there was one useless industry with a history of #polluting our #groundwater that we'd like to see shut down, it's the dry cleaning industry.

Built on the #elitist notion that people need to wear suits in order to exude #confidence and #professionalism, we say -

Let the #dryCleaner disappear.

In the same context, I feel there's a tendency to toss something and replace it with something new more easily than people used to.
My lunch-bag teared a bit and my friend told me to buy a new one. I decided to repair it. Well my hand stitching sucks I guess, but the result is quirky and I love it even more. It is my lunch-bag.

i guess this guy is a relic of old times, where clothes in the closet were less and you couldn't easily afford new. Thus you should care for them. Tailors must be from the same "era".

Well first he folded the pants in half with such dedication and care. He was committed to it. Or perhaps he has done it a million times.

The cashiers at fast-fashion stores popped up in my head. They have folded a million garments as well. But they do it in an "i don't care" manner.

This guy caressed the textile, flattened any wrinkles on the fabric. He respected my clothes.

Yesterday I picked my pants from the dry-cleaner. I was amazed and excited to watch the guy folding the pants with care and then wrapping them with an old fashioned paper. It was such a pleasure and satisfaction to watch this whole ritual. And after that I was thinking; why? I'll post with my thoughts as they unfold. I haven't unwrapped the pants yet, to prolong the mystery.
