Just found that Immich has a "Cursed Knowledge" page.

"Cursed knowledge we have learned as a result of building Immich that we wish we never knew."

https://immich.app/cursed-knowledge

Every project should have this.

I wish I had collected my cursed knowledge encounters over the years. Probably would have amassed a small Necronomicon by now 👻

Cursed knowledge we have learned as a result of building Immich that we wish we never knew.

Immich — Self-hosted photo and video management solution. Easily back up, organize, and manage your photos on your own server. Immich helps you browse, search and organize your photos and videos with ease, without sacrificing your privacy.

Few interesting conclusions from this situation:
- One company has power to flag competitors websites as “dangerous” in the most popular browser
- If you want your website to be rendered back in that browser you have to have Google account (and Google might ban you for life, so having account is not guaranteed)

🚨BREAKING NEWS: The 🤖 overlords at Google have deemed Immich sites "dangerous," leaving their team with a newfound sense of "Cursed Knowledge" 🔮. Turns out, the #redscreenofdeath is not a trendy new app but a sign that maybe Immich should have read the ~directions~ on Google Safe Browsing. 📉

Here's some Cursed Knowledge. I've been setting up local DNS but for some reason I couldn't get local, unqualified host names to work on my Mint 21 machines.

Turns out it's systemd. It has a built in resolver that won't resolve an unqualified hostname because Poettering misread an IAB doc and blocked it for everyone.

The fix is to set ResolveUnicastSingleLabel=yes in /etc/systemd/resolved.conf and restart systemd-resolved.

All wood pigeons in Essex, England are called Geoffrey (aka Jeffrey).

This can be heard in their primary call to each other.

Hoo HOO HOO, Hoo-Hoo!
(It's MY TREE, Geoffrey!)

Their other call is:

Hoo HOO HOO! Hoo HOO HOO!
(It's MY TREE! It's MY TREE!)

“Zucchini” is a combination of the words “Zuck” and “Bikini”.
