Transport NSW now able to laugh at remotely, while you pickyour nose, while sitting in another traffic accident on the M1 at Moony Moony caused by a dual cab ute swerving between lanes.

“The range you can see is just incredible compared to a single CCTV, which may only give you a couple of hundred metres" we can really see how many people are sitting there going nowhere for hours, while we decide not to use the contraflow system, which is perfect for such incidents, but we have never used.

As part of the rollout of new technology, drones will emerge from boxes bolted to spots near the M1 motorway at Mooney Mooney on the Central Coast, while being remotely piloted from Aurbun. We can sit here in our comfortable chairs laughing at all those people being late for work.

Pilots put eyes in skies over Sydney motorways from 50 kilometres away

Within 90 seconds of being notified of a crash, transport officials will now be able to have a drone in the air to guide emergency efforts.

The Sydney Morning Herald

What do people use for cycling directions? I’ve usually used #GoogleMaps because it shows bike lanes, but #AppleMaps actually uses bike lanes correctly when creating directions. Seems especially true of #ContraFlow cycle tracks.

Example below showing a route that should use the new Winona bike lane.

I wrote an analysis of the City of Sydney's Bicycle contraflow streets, using OpenStreetMap data and Overpass Ultra (an Overpass Turbo alternative!)

Any suggestions or corrections are much appreciated.

Contraflow streets in the City of Sydney - Jake Coppinger

The City of Sydney has recently approved 159 suitable streets across 24 suburbs, which will greatly improve the network of legal cycling routes in inner city Sydney. This blog post is a proposal of additional streets which may be suitable for basic contraflow cycling infrastructure that the council could install in future, with a focus on the utility of OpenStreetMap for researching potential streets.

Recently the City of Sydney Local Pedestrian, Cycling and Traffic Calming Committee voted to allow contraflow cycling on 158 one-way streets across the LGA, making up 31.285 kilometres, including installing signage!

I’ve started updating OpenStreetMap where contraflow cycling is now legal on one way streets, suburb by suburb.

This will enable safer and more efficient bicycle routing by apps that use OSM data (TfNSW Trip Planner, Citymapper, Strava, Ride with GPS, Komoot, @organicmaps, Maps.me etc). If you ride a bike and don't use these you're missing out - the routes are better than Google or Apple maps!

Once I’m done I’ll write up a blog post at https://jakecoppinger.com (or a few Overpass Turbo queries at a minimum) looking at how many of the contraflow cycling lanes emerged as a result of this CoS change - and which one way streets didn't make the cut.

Here's an OpenStreetMap query that returns all oneway streets where bikes are explicitly allowed as contraflow, and where the contraflow is a painted green lane on the side. Works anywhere in the world, just click run!

I think City of Sydney proposed making all 1 way lanes contraflow by default. I'm not sure if it was part of this piece of work or something else: https://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/improving-streets-public-spaces/improving-contraflow-lanes-in-sydney
