Mrs. Miasma and I got ourselves some Halloween treats to eat while we wait by the door to pass out candy to the junior monsters and goblins.
Most confectioners don't do a chocolate covered cherry very well but these were pretty good.
Also, Mrs. Miasma said that her witch's hat was pointy and tough to attack, but otherwise very good.

The most common type of higashi use wooden molds called 'kigata' (木型) to create intricate designs in sugar.
Kigata were used to make both smaller, affordable sweets for tea ceremony, and larger, often prohibitively expensive creations for special celebrations or for display.
Named after the new era, 'Kajō-gashi' (嘉祥菓子) were a type of sweet eaten each June 16th as a prayer for health. This tradition continued for many centuries.
The tradition of presenting the emperor with sweets for the 'Kashō Celebrations' (嘉祥の祝) was still alive in the Muromachi period.
In the 'Oyudono-no-ue-no-nikki' (御湯殿上日記), a diary kept by the ladies of court, these sweets were known as 'katsū'/'kazū' (かつう/かずう).
