Mind ✨ vs. Brain 🧠

– inseparable, but not derivable from each other. Playing them against each other creates a pseudo-problem ♻️: a category error! Complementarity 🔑 explains psychosomatic phenomena.

Quoting from Nir Hason and Chen Ma'anit analysis of the Supreme Court's judicial decisions over the course of the military campaign.

Hason and Ma’anit, investigative journalists at #Haaretz who frequently cover legal and human rights issues, claim the the Supreme Court has systematically approved Israeli military actions while rejecting or indefinitely delaying petitions from human rights organizations. They contend that the court has given a "green light" to various military policies including restrictions on food, medical care, journalist access, and detention practices.

Here are some notable controversial rulings mentioned:

Yitzhak Amit (Chief Justice)

- Starvation case: Issued ruling that accepted the state's position that there was no real food shortage in Gaza, despite border closings

- Missing persons cases: Approved dismissal of petition seeking information about detained Palestinians, telling lawyer "There's an email address... what more do we need to do?"

- Red Cross access: Has delayed petition for Red Cross prison visits through 18 extension requests over a year

David Mintz (Judge)

- Starvation case: Wrote 8-page section on medieval Jewish warfare law, including discussion of:
- Wars of extermination against "seven nations"
- Amalek wars requiring genocide ("strike down man and woman, infant and suckling")
- Referenced rabbinical debates about whether starvation is permitted in warfare

- Electricity case: Previously ruled electricity was a basic necessity for Israelis, but voted to deny it to Palestinians

Noam Solberg (Deputy Chief Justice)

- Starvation case: Wrote that humanitarian aid reaching Hamas is an "oxymoron" and that "excessive humanism" prevents ending the fighting

- Various petitions: Repeatedly ruled "there is no cause for our intervention"

- Missing persons: Rejected petition from families of 62 detained Gazans seeking information

- Electricity: Ruled that restoring electricity to Gaza was not justiciable

Daphna Barak-Erez (Judge)

- Red Cross access: Did not require state to allow Red Cross visits to security prisons

- Electricity: Ruled in 2020 that electricity was essential for Israelis' dignified existence, but has not applied same standard to Palestinians

Yael Willner (Judge)

- Missing persons: Told Palestinian lawyer seeking information about detained relative: "There's an email address... what more do we need to do?"

- Various cases: Approved state positions on detention without legal representation

Ruth Ronen (Judge)

- Missing persons: Rejected petition from families of 62 detained Gazans on technical grounds

- Detention cases: Approved dismissing cases where Palestinians died in custody

Ofer Grosskopf (Judge)

- Missing persons: Approved deletion of petition after detainees died in custody

Alex Stein (Judge)

- Electricity: Ruled that restoring electricity to Gaza was not justiciable

Yosef Elron (Judge)

- Recent starvation petition: Given recent case but indicated likely dismissal after Israel announced policy changes

These rulings represent a systematic approval of policies that human rights organizations argue constitute war crimes, with the judges either rejecting petitions outright or allowing indefinite delays that render them meaningless.

From the ICJ perspective, Israel's judiciary appears to be facilitating rather than investigating alleged international crimes, systematically approving policies like starvation and forced displacement while ignoring international court orders - demonstrating "unwillingness" to provide genuine accountability and thereby triggering international jurisdiction.

Prof. Eliav Lieblich (Tel Aviv University Law Faculty) states: "It's simply unbelievable that the Supreme Court completely ignores the opinion of the international court when ruling on the same issue."

#Palestine / Israeli Attorney General refuses to investigate officials who called to burn Gaza and destroy cities in the strip

Despite explicit calls to "burn Gaza" and "completely destroy" Palestinian cities, Israel's AG won't investigate Finance Minister #Smotrich and MK Vaturi, claiming their statements were "vague" and protected by parliamentary immunity. This decision came just three days before the ICC issued arrest warrants for #Netanyahu and #Gallant.

[…] Attorney Itay Mack, who complained against Vaturi and Smotrich on behalf of human rights organizations to the Attorney General and State Prosecutor, told Haaretz today that "Vaturi called several times to burn Gaza and explained that there are no innocent people there. These are statements that are outside the framework of protected freedom of expression, and the justification for not conducting an investigation against him due to freedom of expression is like 'adding sin to crime'." According to Mack, "The Attorney General and State Prosecutor are giving approval and normalizing inciting statements by Jewish elected officials." He added, "More seriously, they are practicing selective racist enforcement - for Jewish elected officials, incitement is part of freedom of expression, and for the non-Jewish public, a similar statement would lead to investigation and even arrest and indictment."

#Complementarity is a fundamental principle that always needs to be accounted for. Too many of our biases direct thinking toward group think, black & white binaries. This is reinforced & amplified in social (qty) situations, including science, the media, & education. #excluded_middle #paradox

#complementarity is a specific kind of diversity: the quality of being different but useful when combined.

Orienting a society towards complementarity means
- seeing non-hierarchical differences within a society as something generative.
- turning the focus from capital and competition toward humanity and cooperation

Regardless of a person's interests, skills, or abilities, we must all be free to labor and leisure. Basically: inclusivness++ :)

In tonight’s tutorial, we talked about how psychology makes sense of emotions like love. Is it all subjective? Maybe not as much as you think. Love can be studied scientifically—not just through brain scans showing neurotransmitters like dopamine and oxytocin but also through observable behaviours.

Take reciprocity: when someone likes us, we’re more likely to like them back. Or similarity: shared values, interests, and beliefs often strengthen attraction. Add proximity and familiarity—the magic of repeated exposure—and you start seeing how relationships form. Then there’s complementarity: where differences between people don’t divide but balance and enhance connection.

What fascinates me is how psychology bridges the personal and the universal. Yes, love feels deeply subjective, but studies show patterns we can test and measure—observing behaviours, tracking emotional responses, and using physiological data to explore what we feel.

Have you noticed these dynamics in your relationships? #Psychology #Love #Relationships #Emotions #Reciprocity #Similarity #Proximity #Familiarity #Complementarity

#GazaGenocide / Israel has submitted an objection to the investigation against it at the Hague and claims that the prosecutor's request for a warrant of arrest is not lawful

[...] Israel argues that the International Criminal Court in The Hague does not have jurisdiction over issues related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including due to the Oslo Accords. In addition, Israel claims that the court should allow it to investigate the allegations raised by the prosecutor itself.

[...] The prosecutor, Karim Khan, has been accused by #Israel of not following the principle of #complementarity. According to Israeli law, if the prosecutor opens a new investigation, he must notify the state being investigated and inform it of what he is investigating. The state has the option to return to the court within a month and show that it is investigating the same issues - then the prosecutor's investigation will be suspended or terminated.

@martinvermeer absolutely non what-so-ever 🙄 but it's not so simple in the current climate in Israel. If the prosecutor will be forced , politically, to drop these cases, it'll be really something the ICJ and ICC can't ignore.
