It's a reasonably clear night and I think I managed to get a glimpse of #CometZTF (that's the #GreenComet ) but there's an unfortunate amount of #LightPollution where I live.

I caught comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF)!
Wait, what do you mean you can't see it? It's right there, on the left, that super small a bit green blurry dot. Yes, right there!

Ok, I know, I know! It's not spectacular nor stunning in any way. But that stacked, blurry image was all I could get. Still I'm SUPER happy I got it! And that I can proudly say I took a photo of the comet 😌

The green comet, C/2022 E3 (ZTF). Did you manage to see it?!

I did, was a smudge in my telescope.🤩

This comet hasn't been seen in over 50,000 years and came within 27 million miles of us. Then it continued its journey out past Mars on its way to explore the universe again.🥰

Is it too late to see comet ZTF? I went out with binoculars several times in the last few weeks, but haven't been able to spot it. Maybe there's just too much light pollution here.

For those looking for the dim M7.1 #CometZTF, it's *kind of easy* to spot tonight 2/15, near orange star #Aldebaran, the eye of #Taurus the bull, not to be confused with a nearby brighter, rustier looking #Mars. Look for a disappointing smear of gray in the telescope.

Stellarium Web Online Star Map

Stellarium Web is a planetarium running in your web browser. It shows a realistic star map, just like what you see with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope.

Clear skies early tonight, 2/15 will let us take out the telescopes at the #WestportObservatory for the WAS Weekly Wednesday #StarParty when we open the dome after 8 pm. No Moon, last views of dim #CometZTF and deep sky stuff with you and your universe!

APOD: 2023 February 13 – Comet ZTF and Mars

A different astronomy and space science related image is featured each day, along with a brief explanation.

A Green Comet and the Red Planet performed a waltz in space. Last night #cometztf ☄️and Mars had a close encounter with one another in the constellation Taurus the Bull. This image is the result of 10 minutes of exposure time. Although the two appeared close to each other, Mars was 91,096,691 miles from Earth, whereas comet ZTF was 41,644,202 miles from Earth. Mars is easily visible, but you'll need binoculars or a telescope to see the comet. 📷🔭
Here's how to find #CometZTF from New England tonight, 2/11, around 8 PM. The #comet will be visible near the #Pleiades cluster, and #Mars is within 2 degrees of the comet, making it easier to spot. Now at a dim magnitude 6, so binoculars or a telescope are necessary.
