Bottle Lake May 1st to 3rd Trip report.

Ice was out but still COLD!

Took it slow and kept close to shore as my brother is not the most comfortable in a canoe and neither of us wanted an upset.

Got to a beautiful campsite and posted up. Some winter campers had left a snow stake and some bucked firewood. Still wet but saved much work!

The wind was cold and there was snow at times. Wore most of my clothing to bed each night!

The trade off to the cold? No flying bugs! My brother did get a tick, and we used a tick key to get it out. TIL that ticks are active above 2c and since there were no flying bugs, we didn't bug spray up for a hike up to the lookout.

All in all, good first 2 night trip of the season and looking forward to more!

🌲 New video up on *Backcountry Diaries*! 🌲

Join me for a short but eventful three-night trip to Quetico. After finding a perfect island campsite, I settled in, caught a huge fish that escaped right out of my net, did some exploring by canoe, and even outran a thunderstorm. Plus, I enjoyed some tasty dehydrated meals along the way. Check it out on YouTube! 🚣‍♂️🐟⚡️ #BackcountryDiaries #Quetico #CanoeCamping #ExploreTheWild #Fishing #Camping #Canoeing

Yesterday a falling branch hit me and my hammock on our last day of a Delaware River canoe camping trip. Fortunately the branch wasn't very large and it was just a glancing blow on the back of my shoulder.

And also, assuming that they still attach to your bike okay, you can do the old-school #CanoeCamping trick of using a garbage bag to line the pannier until you can get expert help. I'm trying to justify the expense of getting a set of these babies when I no longer bike commute or go #bikepacking. I love them so much but really don't need them.
