New camera day! I picked up an old micro 4/3 OM-D E-M1 and snapped a few photos around my local beaver pond. The colour photo is a JPEG straight out of the camera. I made the b/w photos to test the tonal range of the new system.

I love the idea of M4/3 for backcountry tripping; lighter gear on portages and fully weather sealed. This rig is apparently resistant to freezing, too. It won't be long before I can test that.

Here are a couple of our backyard visitors today: a dark-eyed junco (Junco hyemalis) and a black-capped chickadee (Poecile atricapillus).

During a mid-fall camping trip, this pileated woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus) surprised us on our campsite and stuck around long enough to have his photo taken. What a treat!

I managed to capture this short, awe-inspiring time-lapse video of the beautiful northern lights, filmed at a conservation area north of Lake Superior. The aurora borealis dances across the night sky, with vibrant green and pink hues lighting up partly cloudy skies. This breathtaking natural display showcases the magic of the northern wilderness.

On a recent hike through the backcountry, I came across this photogenic little squirrel, who was all too willing to pose for the camera.
