Some books and authors stay with you and stay on the shelves for years, even if you don't always think about them and don't always revisit the books. For me, that's always been the case with Caleb Carr; Mr K (that great book enabler) presented me with Carr's great novel "The Alienist" on its release in 1994 and I adored it; the same applied to his follow-up, "Angel of Darkness".
I thought it exceedingly strange that Caleb Carr (The Alienist and 10 other books) went on TV as a subject matter expert right after 9/11. Turns out he was an expert.

Sadly, it was actually Caleb Carr who passed. Which speaks to how widely Crain is loathed, I think, and how underappreciated Carr is. THE ALIENIST and THE ITALIAN SECRETARY are both well worth reading and certainly better than anything than that gasbag Caleb Crain has ever written.
