After we'd completed our circuit of Anglesey in 2011, including visits to Beaumaris Castle, an aquarium, a neolithic burial ground, and numerous photo stops, we crossed back onto the mainland and visited another castle. This was Caernarfon Castle, built in 1283 on the orders of Edward I and designed to look like the walls of Constantinople. It was captured during the Welsh rebellion around a decade later but retaken the following year, was a Royalist stronghold in the English Civil War, and was used as the site of the investitures of the Princes of Wales in the 20th century.

Daily #Wales part 6. To be fair I'm now pretty much castled out. There are only so many spiral staircase you can climb in one holiday and I've reached my limit.

#Caernarfon today, in shorts no less! I don't know whether my enthusiasm isn't there or what but while #CaernarfonCastle is pretty spectacular it wasn't my favourite. It'd be hell in high season.

#Llyn Peninsular tomorrow so fingers crossed for more nice weather.

A few pictures of the Eleanor Cross in Dunstable. It was erected by Edward I after his wife, Queen Eleanor passed in 1290. The whole story about Edward and Eleanor presented in Caernarfon Castle (Eleanor's Room).

We took a trip to North Wales in February to get new designs for jigsaws and for a new shop opening in Beddgelert who had contacted us. Work sucks having to visit locations like this haha :) This is the stunning Caernarfon Castle in North Wales. I wanted blue skies and fluffy white clouds, but being Wales we got this instead. However, I rather like the moodiness of it.

The medieval toilet or latrine, then called a privy or garderobe, was a primitive affair, but in a castle, one might find a little more comfort and certainly a great deal more design effort than had been invested elsewhere. Practicality, privacy, and efficient waste disposal were all considered and, even today, one of the most prominent and easily identifiable features of ruined medieval castle...https://www.worldhistory.org/article/1239/toilets-in-a-medieval-castle/ #BeaumarisCastle #CaernarfonCastle #CaerphillyCastle
