• Jhone, Jhorg, Phowl, Rhunga are the #Beatles
• Chirshil is #Churchill
• Bjrin Adass — #BrianAldiss ? Why is he the Singing God?
• Jeajee Blad — #JGBallard
• Jh'Im Slas — Jim ??
• Aral Vilsn — #HaroldWilson

Wilson is father of Squeeze(?) and Balance of Credit. I need to look up the specific events of c.1968 to see what he's referring to.

Coolest moment so far: one third of the way through and there's been no hint of anything other than ordinary animals and various human groups.

Suddenly sentient(?) but normal sized rats show up and carefully manoeuvre into place a caged rabbit. Which is telepathic?? And a slave of the rats?

It would be so great to hit players with that when they think this is humans-only.

Currently reading Non-Stop by Brian Aldiss, part of Gollancz's SF Masterworks line.

It's a great setup for a megadungeon campaign: the protagonist is part of a degenerate tribe living within a massive starship where everything has gone to crap. They explore the forest of hydroponic overgrowth hunting for meat. There are countless still-sealed rooms containing advanced tech, critical supplies, useless junk, terrifying monsters.

J’ai fini Le Printemps d’Helliconia. Ça se termine un peu en queue de poisson pour les personnages principaux, mais Aldiss s’en foutait probablement : le vrai protagoniste, c’est l’écosystème planétaire tout entier, des changements climatiques massifs au cycle de vie des tiques extraterrestres. Y a un côté limite Zola dans ce désir de raconter l’histoire d’un système global en s’appuyant sur « les sciences ». Comme les Rougon-Macquart, je suis pas sûr d’être super motivé pour lire toute la série, même s’il n’y a que 3 tomes et pas 20. #VendrediLecture #BrianAldiss #ScienceFiction

Du coup, cette semaine, je lis Le Printemps d'Helliconia de Brian Aldiss.

Comme souvent avec Aldiss, j'aime bien le concept et le cadre, mais je trouve que l'exécution et l'intrigue laissent à désirer, sans être ratées pour autant.

Hundertster Geburtstag von Brian Aldiss. Denke immer noch gern an meine Neuübersetzung von HOTHOUSE zurück, einer der erfüllendsten Aufträge meiner Laufbahn. Immerhin las ich das Buch schon als Kind, und es hat mein Denken und Fühlen wirklich geprägt, was Natur, Ökologie, Evolution und Tiefenzeit angeht. Außerdem ist der Roman auf der Abenteuerebene einfach ein wildbuntes (nicht weitersagen) Pulp-Ding, randvoll mit Sense of Wonder! 🖤
