More new work in advance of #ArtAdventCalendar2024, my blue mussel print for #InverteFest2024 & repeat pattern I made with it. This year I made several patterns using my natural history prints.

The blue mussel (Mytilus edulis), or common mussel, is a medium-sized edible marine bivalve mollusc in the family Mytilidae. They are aptly called common mussels and are found on temperate beaches worldwide.

I’ve been playing with using some natural history prints to make repeat patterns. So for #InverteFest2024 I thought I would share some #invertebrate patterns like this one from my blue mussel #linocut.

On #offshore #WindFarms, #seafood production may be a breeze: In addition to generating #CleanEnergy, sea locations with turbines could be used to grow #mussels, #oysters and #seaweed https://projects.research-and-innovation.ec.europa.eu/en/horizon-magazine/offshore-wind-farms-seafood-production-may-be-breeze

"The foods grown included #BlueMussels and various types of seaweed, sometimes in combination with the #restoration of #OysterBeds... The resulting yields were comparable to those in calmer nearshore waters and away from other infrastructure"

On offshore wind farms, seafood production may be a breeze

Off the coasts of Belgium, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands dozens of wind farms whir away, helping Europe switch to renewable energy from fossil fuels. Some of those wind farms are also helping Europe do something few people might imagine: grow seafood. The activity represents a promising new approach to tapping natural resources.Business as unusualCalled β€œmultiuse”, it involves the sharing of offshore space and is a big departure from the usual idea of exclusive operating rights.
