As long as we’ve known this woman—our precious sister-in-law—she's cherished the natural world. She loves outdoor sports and activities, from exploring tide pools to biking, since she relishes being close to nature! Today she sent us a photo of her newest ride, a trike given to her by some friends who were moving away from her community in Fort Myers, Florida.
As she'd told us earlier (https://bikemonterey.org/voices-of-people-who-bike-part-2-encouragement-and-barriers.html) "Inside the all-ages gated community where we live, a lot of people bicycle, including those who are seniors. Many bike to get around, and many home rentals include a bicycle….The trikes are really popular here, and most have baskets on them for carrying things. Many have cupholders and cell phone holders; they have them all decked out! Many people do put flags on their trikes to be more visible. Often you’ll see people with their dog riding with them too.”

We don’t think this Monterey County resident is out of touch with distressing circumstances in our nation, including surreal actions by the Commander in Chief. In fact, this local is a U.S. military veteran (unlike the C of C, ironically) and a member of Veterans for Peace.
Yet even when news is troubling, whenever we see him, he wears a bright smile. We feel sure he keeps his spirits up—regardless of the day’s news or the day’s weather— by doing lots of pedaling! Whenever we see him, as again today, he’s on his bicycle.

@bweller The irony is that if they took the reports and enforced the laws, they'd probably be faced with fewer reports.
In case yall are unaware,
the actual, practiced threshold for cops enforcing motor vehicle laws against drivers for infractions that endanger cyclists
is actual death.
in my own experience, and in statements from them,
you need to die before theyll press charges.
@nedhamson1 okay now remove every CCTV camera. no? your argument isnt about cameras then.
its a public space for a reason. there is no expectation of privacy.
the issue is internet connected to a giant unaccountable corporation or government.
I capture footage on my bodycam as a #BikeCommuter of cars doing things that could kill me like running me off the road a couple days ago. Without it nothing can happen unless I actually die. I've been hit. You'd take that away from me.
@starraven this. its the internet-connected and faceless corporation thats the issue. as a cyclist, my bodycam gets a lot of footage of cars running me off the road or driving down the bike path.
