Where the hell is my 'runner's high'?

Many people talk of the rush of pleasure, the euphoric hit, that you experience when you do enough running. But I'll believe it when I see (feel) it.

We don’t think this Monterey County resident is out of touch with distressing circumstances in our nation, including surreal actions by the Commander in Chief. In fact, this local is a U.S. military veteran (unlike the C of C, ironically) and a member of Veterans for Peace.

Yet even when news is troubling, whenever we see him, he wears a bright smile. We feel sure he keeps his spirits up—regardless of the day’s news or the day’s weather— by doing lots of pedaling! Whenever we see him, as again today, he’s on his bicycle.

I'm ok with it as long as she continues to pacify the masses / staves off the violence for a few more years etc.

I partially credit BC for keeping things from getting wild+murderous during the Trump era. It is a TERRIFIC placebo there has never been anything like it in this regard.

And I suspect I've got some endorphins releasing.

Yeah, definitely feeling some goodness.

Endorphins are welcome 🏋🏻‍♀️

Endorphins are natural chemicals produced by your body that act as neurotransmitters (chemical messengers) in the brain. Their main role is to help reduce pain and boost pleasure, leading to feelings of well-being. Endorphins are your body’s natural “feel-good” and “pain-relief” chemicals, part of your built-in reward and survival system. "Depression has a nasty way of turning gentle, healing steps into “not good enough.” But here’s the truth: the basic things (walking, cycling at low resistance) are actually exactly the kinds of activities that can wake up your endorphins again—especially after surgery and grief." Animated image (GIF) from the movie Legally Blonde showing Elle Woods (played by Reese Witherspoon) speaking with a bright, cheerful expression. She has long blonde hair, red lipstick, and is wearing a black blazer over a white blouse with a red bow tie. The subtitles read: "Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy." […]

"The Truth Behind ‘Runner’s High’ and Other Mental Benefits of Running"

You've heard of runner's high, right? Well, I've got news for you.

From the article:

"As you hit your stride, your body releases hormones called endorphins. Popular culture identifies these as the chemicals behind “runner’s high,” a short-lasting, deeply euphoric state following intense exercise. Surveys have revealed runner’s high to be rather rare, however, with a majority of athletes never experiencing it. “Indeed, many distance runners feel merely drained or even nauseated at the end of a long race, not blissful,” says Linden."

I never experienced a "runner's high" and though I was just quirky. Well well, it turns out that barfing up my lunch after I run is totally normal.

No, but seriously, not feeling a high is normal!

Oh, and those who argue "you should run because you're going to experience runner's high" can go fuck themselves.

The Truth Behind ‘Runner’s High’ and Other Mental Benefits of Running

Often referred to as "runner's high," the relaxing feeling after a good run is usually attributed to a burst of endorphins released during exercise. But is that truly an endorphin rush you're feeling, or something else?

See, I was on #AntiDepressants for several years. Got most of the side effects. #WeightGain #SunSensitivity etc. The most fun is how my #BioChemistry has been altered such that whatever my body produces during exercise (maybe #endorphins maybe something else), it doesn't make me feel great or...
