"Now that produces in a rat, or a pidgeon, or a monkey - and in a man - a very high rate of activity. And if you build up you can get enormous amounts of behaviour out of these organisms, for very little pay. You don't need to give them very much to induce a lot of that. Now a world in which a great many productive things occur on this schedule would be a wonderful world."

The real problem is not whether machines think but whether men do.

It has often been remarked that an educated man has probably forgotten most of the facts he acquired in school and university. Education is what survives when what has been learned has been forgotten.

DON't go crazy with the Internet!
"Do people really allow their devices to interrupt them on a random reinforcement schedule? I mean, no wonder the internet makes people go crazy. I'm not a big believer in #BFSkinner, but I think it's well established that any stimulus that occurs at random intervals is impossible to get used to, and shocks you anew every time it recurs."

A person who has been punished is not thereby simply less inclined to behave in a given way; at best, he learns how to avoid punishment.

Analysing #ElonMusk in terms of a #SkinnerBox.

A psychologist #BFSkinner put a row of closed boxes up. Each with a pidgeon inside. A little food was dropped in at random intervals.

After some days or weeks the boxes were opened.
And each pidgeon was performing a stereotyped movement, (ascribing agency here) trying to get more food.

Seems that whatever action the pidgeon happened to be doing when first random food arrived was biased to happen more frequently.
