Y'all know Klimt.
While we're familiar with the portraits of women from his Golden Period, this is a natural scene from the same period that doesn't get enough attention.
The choice of a square canvas clicks with his involvement with and inspiration by the Vienna Secession. There are bits of gold leaf here and there, and he kept adding to this after he gave it to his muse/model Emilie Flöge, filling in empty spots and adding more leaves and more pears.
It's a lovely late summer/early fall image as well, evocative of those times when trees are heavily laden with fruit.
I like it, because I've always liked pears, and also because my new home is on Bartlett Avenue!
