So here's the current operating metrics for using Debian Bananas (Trixie and KDE Plasma btw). Keep in mind I haven't compiled the mesa3D drivers or whatever yet, because I'm lazy, so that might help a bit too, but so far I'd say this is not something I'd recommend on lower end M1s. I'm cruisin' along fine because this thing is speced out to Hell, but @cloudymax is also running the same stack on a lower end M1 and is suffering from overheating right now.

I've done a little post about my journey of running Linux on both Apple Intel and Silicon hardware. Spoiler: my main machine is now a 16" M1 Pro MacBook

Happy birthday to me!

This is where I will spend the next hours.

Its happening! Its finally installing Debian bananas! Its at 70.6% now.

BTW, I took the opportunity to take everything off of icloud and move it to nextcloud. Very very happy about that

I'm utterly fascinated by #AsahiLinux and their efforts, but I'm a bit unfamiliar with their process. Like, is there a particular reason why they only support up to M2-class Apple silicon right now, or is it just that they gotta keep working to get support for later hardware going smoothly?

I'd also love to know if they intend to try adding support for the MacBook Neo if they're able to. I think it'd make for a neat little ARM Linux machine :)

Going to try and install asahi (debian bananas flavor) this weekend on my old M1. Wish me luck!

Asahi Linux updated on the Apple Silicon iMac. KDE Plasma was just updated for this Fedora Linux spin. I can do all my daily chores except photo editing with it as most day to day apps run in a browser.

I had a little trouble with the update. It would boot and cut to black. Cold and dark. Something about my Apple keyboard was giving it indigestion. Switching to a Raspberry Pi keyboard worked nicely.

#AsahiLinux for #AppleSilicon

Researching my next #Linux laptop and considering an M1 Macbook Air (16GB) for its great screen and built quality. How solid is #asahilinux running on that machine? Besides retina displays, I care a lot about smooth trackpad scrolling and solid support for multi-touch gestures. How are those working out in @AsahiLinux today? Opinions much appreciated!
Apple announced a kind of budget laptop, the Mac Book Neo, für €699. Is it worth to buy and replace the sh1teOS with Fedora Asahi Remix or would it be smarter to buy from another hardware vendor and have the full spectrum of linux distro possibilities?

After five years, this #Apple M1 MacBook Air is still a cracking little #Linux workstation. I do hope the new MacBook #Neo gets the #AsahiLinux treatment at some point.
