Meine Fresse läuft das Ding schnell 😳

Das Einzige was echt nervt, dass man Asahi Linux NICHT als ISO runterladen und auf einen Stick laden kann, um eine komplette Installation zu machen. Das #macOS (nur Grundinstallation, ohne Einrichtung mit Apple-Account!) verbraucht rund 75GB. Schade um den Platz.

But: my second Macbook Pro runs #Linux!

Yesterday my sister presents me with a 2020 MacBook Air she was gifted. It was slow and not working properly, so how did I fix it? I put #Linux on it of course!

Fedora Asahi Remix to be precise. It was a bit of a faff on the M1; I had to nuke a 153GB ghost user account just to make room for a firmware update before I could even shrink the partition. It's now a KDE Plasma 6 machine with OnlyOffice for her coursework. Proper FOSS liberation for Apple hardware.

Fired up the M1 Pro MBP for the first time in a while to mess around. Installed more #asahilinux updates and rebooted. Now USB sound devices refuse to work at all. Zero.
Cool, guess I'll put that back away.

Linux läuft auch auf anderen Prozessoren. Es gibt mit #AsahiLinux mindestens eine spezialisierte Variante (sogenannte „Distribution“) für Apple Silicon, die das besonders einfach macht. (Auf den PowerPCs lief Linux sowieso schon immer.)

That said: Glückwunsch, Anny! Es ist schön, dass bei vielen Menschen Vernunft über Bequemlichkeit siegt.
