This morning's #workout #music is some #AfroCubanJazz from Shabaka & The Ancestors. These guys are well-known #UK #jazz stars and their #AfroCaribbean influences remind me of #DizzyGillespie despite the lack of trumpet. I have heard them here and there, but this is the first deep dive I have taken. Lots of interesting things going on musically and I can see why they are popular, but I must say the emotional tone in this particular set is pretty neutral. Doesn't have the punch of similar projects (e.g., Matana Roberts' Coin Coin, or Art Ensemble of Chicago's We Are On The Edge) to my ear.

I have no idea why @ArtistMarciaX says she doesn't have a unique personal style yet. Even if it's not clear to you or maybe not as developed as you'd like, your sound is definitely unique and expresses a particular point of view. I love it.
