One element that recurs in many relevant discussions is the negative spiral:
-> less engagement in activity
-> less satisfaction that occurs through engagement + subsequently less build-up of competence
-> subsequently less engagement in activity...
Subsequently, one could maybeemphasize more broadly disengagement from meaningful activity as problematic - and of course, activity is socially embedded.
