It was a warm day, so I finally fully uncovered and weeded my bed and planted some spring crops..probably a little late on those, but I'm sure it will work out. I pulled out a bunch of bittercress and mugwort, which I harvested for salads and tea. The mugwort is drying right now. Then, I cleared some space and sowed French Breakfast and Cherry Belle radishes, dragon carrots, upland cress, mache, miner's lettuce and Evergreen Hardy White scallions. I'm experimenting with sowing the fast radishes on top of the carrots, to save space and keep the soil loose. We'll see if it works. The cold-tolerant greens maybe should have been sown earlier, or kept for overwintering greens, but we'll see what happens. Meanwhile, the kales and sage are fairly happy for now, the garlic seems to be having a great time, both rosemarys are not thrilled, and about four daikon are still hanging on to bolt. I also noticed one of my strawberry plants has some blooms. If it's doing that this early, maybe I can assume they're a June-bearing variety and try to go from there.

Overnight temp was 26F. Greenhouse was shut tight and at 10:30am measured 105F !
Got the auto openers for the roof windows attached now. Guess I can start bringing the seedlings out from my indoor rack to the greenhouse where they will thrive and not get cooked. Happy day!

Hey we did it!
This greenhouse came as a kit of hundreds of pieces. It was not easy to assemble, but it is very well made and I’m excited to start a new type of growing!

Planted three American/european hybrid hazelnut shrubs (unnamed variety) and two elderberry bushes (York and Nova). Expanding our backyard food diversity.

These early blooms don't belong here, but at least they're still pretty, I suppose. Featuring an unknown Scilla species/squill/glory-of-the-snow; daffodil; vinca minor/lesser periwinkle; veronica/birdseye speedwell and a forsythia. #nature #bloomscrolling #zone6b #zone7a
We had some heavy winds last Friday. I knew there were some feral Western Honeybee hives in the area, but this was a first..the winds had dislodged some comb from high up in a dead tree. It was broken up into chunks, and a few bees were still busy--I think licking up and salvaging what they could. The comb pieces seemed mostly dry and empty by the time I stumbled across them. #nature #bees #insects #zone6b #zone7a
Haphazardly started some seeds last night. A bunch of my natives are still cold-stratifying for another month, so these are mostly veggies and herbs. We'll see if this setup is enough. #nature #gardening #seeds #zone6b #zone7a

Trench accomplished!
#Greenhouse #gardening #Zone7a

Began digging the #greenhouse foundation trenches today. Only one (short) side done because my muscles haven’t moved during the winter months. But it’s one trench done and I’m celebrating 🎉
