#SAF-aligned rebel groups in El Fasher and Easter #Sudan, meanwhile, know they're fighting for their own survival and that of #Darfur's "African" ethnicities such as the #Zaghawa, the #Fur and the #Masalit. Conflicts between those groups and local civilians in Eastern Sudan and SAF's ethnic targeting of Darfuris and Kordofanis might temperate this "advantage" however.

#Chad is another matter entirely, being a neighbour of #Sudan with a 1360km long border. The #Zaghawa stake in the war, including #RSF’s probable #genocide and Jibril Ibrahim’s #JEM alignment with the #SAF, might trigger instability in Chad itself as well as a hardening of the Chadian posture. Tit for tat expulsions of diplomats last December came a month after JEM abandoned its professed neutrality.

The Implications of the Current War for the Chad-Sudan Relationship – Sudan Transparency and Policy Tracker

(March 18, 2024) Chad is both impacting, and impacted by, the ongoing war in Sudan. The war has sent large numbers of refugees from Sudan's Darfur into Chad. At

While the razing of several #Zaghawa villages around El Fasher had openly demonstrated the #RSF's genocidal intent, several incident between the #SAF and SAF allies as well as between still neutral and formerly neutral groups within the city had revealed the complexity of the current conflict. SAF and SAF allies are currently attempting a sortie towards the east.

The #UAE are the main backer of the #RSF and as such the main complicit in their many atrocity crimes, including #genocide of the #Masalit in #Darfur, and other “non-Arab” or “African” groups, such as the #Fur and the #Zaghawa. The RSF lately threatened an all-out attack on El Fasher (North Darfur), last #SAF holdout in the region and where formerly neutral rebel groups have for the most part recently decided to wage war on the RSF.

Surrounded by Fighters and Haunted by Famine, Sudan City Fears Worst

A powerful paramilitary group has encircled El Fasher, the last remaining obstacle to domination of the sprawling Darfur region, raising alarm about mass killings if the city is taken.

- There are "reasonable grounds" to believe there is an ongoing #genocide in #Darfur, by the #RSF, of other non-Arab groups, including the #Fur and the #Zaghawa.

Meanwhile, the #RSF's distrust in #Darfur's #Zaghawa seem to have led them to loot and raze Zaghawa villages (#SLM-MM strongholds) west of El Fasher. There is clearly a risk of #genocide of the Zaghawa by the RSF at this time.
