#Genocide in #Darfur: A first independent report by the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights

Based on extensive analysis of the events unfolding for a year in the region of Darfur, that have between others resulted in the death of around 20,000 #Masalit, the report concludes:

#Sudan #genocide

- That there is an ongoing #genocide of the #Masalit in #Darfur, the #RSF being responsible for multiple genocidal acts and incitement to genocide. 10 to 15,000 Masalit have been killed in El Geneina (West Darfur) alone.

- The #SAF failed to prevent this genocide in the few areas under their effective control.

#Sudan

- The ongoing #genocide is the continuation of the 2003 genocide. "The same perpetrators are committing the same atrocities against the same targeted groups with #impunity".

- #RSF' supporters, that is chiefly the #UAE, but also #Libya and #Haftar's #LNA, #Russia and the #Wagner Group (now #AfricaCorps), #Chad, #CAR are complicit.

#Vagner #Sudan

- There are "reasonable grounds" to believe there is an ongoing #genocide in #Darfur, by the #RSF, of other non-Arab groups, including the #Fur and the #Zaghawa.

#Sudan

Naturally and in contrary to the situation 20 years ago, #Darfur isn't the only area in #Sudan where war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocidal acts have happened for the past year. Investigations of other areas under #RSF control, as well as #SAF actions in the same areas, are needed.

#genocide

Genocidal acts and incitement to #genocide by the #RSF should likewise not cloud the multiple atrocity crimes committed by the #SAF over the past year, and on which the report is explicit as far as #Darfur is concerned.

#Sudan

#SPLM-N regularly denounces a pattern of crimes against humanity and #genocide against the #Nuba in South #Kordofan, for example.

Other populations, especially ethnic minorities and other vulnerable groups, remain particularly at risk.

While deaths resulting from the war and atrocity crimes throughout #Sudan now number in the tens of thousands and more than half of its 49 million inhabitants are in need of humanitarian assistance. As the vast majority of health facilities are unable to operate, and this year's crops point to a much worsening famine ahead, we need to #KeepEyesOnSudan.

#genocide #Darfur

18 million people are currently facing acute food insecurity. 8.6 million people have been displaced, including 1.6 million refugees in foreign countries.

Beyond the direct support of some to both warlords now vying for power, amounting to complicity in their crimes, all parties to the #Genocide Convention have a legal - and moral - duty to act in support of targeted groups that no single financial pledge can honour. It is unacceptable that, 30 years after the genocide of the Tutsi, states should again fail to act.
