I was recently craving Dong Ding oolong, so I had Nari Tea's one, made from the Si Ji Chun cultivar in Nantou, Taiwan 🏔️

The dry leaf aroma reminded me of chocolate cereals in rich milk, as well as orange peel and dark honey.
The tea broth aroma was floral (lilac) and slightly milky, and the tea itself tasted of floral honey, with mineral and roasted notes.

It's sometime hard for me to taste the charcoal roast in a tea, but I've been trying to pay more attention to it when drinking tea lately, and this time I think I was able to grasp it.

Fun fact : I drank Nari's Dong Ding for the first time last December, and when I went back to check my notes, I saw that I had already noticed the chocolate cereals aroma in the dry leaves back then! That's such a specific one, I wouldn't have expected to get it consistently, but I did! 🍫

Gold Magnolia Dancong from White2Tea is a Lighter roast, lighter oxidation oolong. Varietal is "jin yu lan". I should maybe have drunk it sooner, it is a little shy about its flavor.

Second tea from the White2Tea 2023 rock oolongs, "meizhan". According to their website, meizhan is usually heavily represented in "da hong pao" blends, but this is pure meizhan. Fairly heavy roast and oxidation, this is a pretty serious rock oolong.

The 2021 Stone Milk from White2Tea is another lighter roast/oxidation style rock oolong, making it quite fragrance forward.

2022 release Spring Peach rock oolong from White2Tea. This is good, but it is my least favorite of their 2022 rock oolongs. Something about the roast/oxidation/flavor just doesn't quite do it for me. I do prefer heavier oxidation/roast levels and Spring Peach is on the lighter-medium side for both. Also, tea monster has returned, recovered from his cat accident broken foot. Here's hoping it holds up to future pours!
