It's probably first frost here tonight. As a newbie pensioner I started passing on my UK #WinterFuel payment to charity, like many others did. These days, people close to poverty are still cold, and the charities are still trying.
Around here that's #CumbriaCommunityFoundation.
Their delivery partners, like AgeUK, also offer to check that people are getting their full govt benefits.

You're absolutely right; it's completely ridiculous.

I don't understand what they hope to achieve.

You mention history, but think how many times they've had to backtrack in the last year, the backlash from #WinterFuel and #WelfareReform... It's as though they've got a death wish... Or do they really think they can push through a Trump-style state if they're just sufficiently determined?

That said, a country that voted for #Brexit, put the likes of Johnson in power...πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

🧡1/2: It's legally incomprehensible a Court of Appeal* should have upheld the government's decision to outlaw #PalestineAction as a #terrorist org: it's unenforceable. I don't believe the chilling effect will work & the arrest of 25 citizens holding signs today proves it. There are too many people alienated by #Labour's hostile #austerity policies who have a lot of time on their hands & nothing left to lose, incl. 1000s of #pensioners screwed over by the #winterfuel payment cuts

More NHS trusts are declaring critical incidents as patients wait for days in A&E. Flu, RSV, norovirus and covid-19 are testing the NHS to breaking point again this winter. The risk was flagged up well in advance and could have been met with emergency funding - it wasn't. Instead the government cut winter fuel payments for pensioners.
