That simple cargo strap winder was well worth making!

Got my ratchet straps rolled up in seconds after using them today.

Before I'd just chuck them somewhere to deal with later and then next time they had become some kind of entangled knot of great annoyance. Or spend ages winding them by hand.

I have dubbed it "Jonas Winder" 😀

It also has since passed the firehose winding test, although you need a strong drill that can go slow enough (such as this one) for that.

This also involved welding a broken layer cake bolt for the engine ground back together.

Who the fuck thought this was a good idea. Looks like an afterthought to me.

Circa 2008 in Wolfsburg:

"Hey Kallheinz, wo schraubmer nu die Motormasse fest?"

"Äh.... scheiße! Hab ich vergessen. Moment. Wir spezifizieren einfach einen Tortenbolzen! Die von Bosch bauen für uns jeden Quatsch!"

"Genial Kallheinz, seh Dich nachher beim Fussballspiel!"

A replacement would've cost €9 and the annoyance of leaving a pile of parts out and having to restart the job.

Better to grab the welder.

Or I guess I could've just drilled a new hole in the mount and cut a thread, as Kallheinz should've done in the first place

Carrot paint applied and homemade trailer hitch installed. I even found a cap for the ball in my collection of old farm junk.

This Rilak alkyd enamel paint is pretty decent, although better sprayed than brushed. But even in summer weather it takes days to dry and weeks to fully cure through.
