The sculpture "Lobke" is Angela Scholten's statement against the overfishing of our oceans. The work is recycled art and was made from nets and other objects found on the beach or that we usually consider waste.

The consequences of overfishing and industrialized fishing are barely noticeable to many people on land. When a piece of forest disappears, it's immediately visible to us. However, when an ecosystem in the ocean is destroyed by trawling nets, this usually remains outside our perception. Hardly anyone realizes the central role the oceans play in the global climate and oxygen production. As humanity, we are still doing far too little to protect this vital ecosystem.

Consider, for example, Timmy, the humpback whale who stranded on the German Baltic coast in the spring of 2026 and later died despite extensive rescue attempts. Remnants of fishing nets were found in his mouth, which may have interfered with his feeding. Timmy is not an isolated case. Countless marine animals worldwide die due to fishing, ghost nets, plastic waste, and other human interventions in the oceans.

Artists like Angela Scholten are drawing attention to these problems. It is up to us to wake up and protect the oceans.

Special thanks go to the artist Angela Scholten, who allowed Lucie to be photographed with Lobke.

The artists’ collectives @karmijnkunst from #Rotterdam and @RAR from #Spijkenisse inspire one another.
My inspiration partner is #AngieScholten, and the third photo shows the artwork she submitted. The first two photos show my work, which was inspired by hers. So curious what she will get out of mine! More to follow.

"Oh,...not again!"
#wal #peranhalterdurchdiegalaxis #art #mixedmedia #kunst #mastoart #fediart #recyclingart #mastoart #whale
