"Ontario's members of provincial parliament will get an extra long break from the legislature this summer, as it takes a 21-week recess. The extended break comes after the legislature sat for 30 days, following a 14-week winter break."

Does that sound right to you? WTF are elected officials sitting in constituency offices instead of at Queen's Park?

I cannot wait to get rid of Doug Ford. He does NOTHING for the people and only shows up to do things for big business.

"The 148-day recess — after MPPs sat just 30 days since an unusually long winter hiatus — has opposition parties accusing Ford of avoiding scrutiny over controversies like student loan cuts and his purchase of a $28.9-million jet dubbed the “gravy plane.” #OnPoli

So not surprised about the Ford government announcing yet another extended summer break for their MPP's. Citing the municipal elections is just another lame excuse when it's really about avoiding accountability. #shame #ONpoli

I am conflicted by today's news that #corrupt #premiere #DougFord and #queenspark are going on break for TWENTY-ONE WEEKs.

On one hand, 21 weeks. That's a pretty good vacation. And you voted yourselves a pay raise not a year or two ago? Fuck you #OPC and Douggie.

On the other hand, if they're not sitting they can't be actively fucking up my province. And all this time not actively ruining the province can be spent actively grifting more money in secret corrupt ways that we will now never find out about because all the records are sealed from the public... forever.

But no, please go on about McGuinty's fucking gas plant emails being horrendous crime. #ontario #onpoli

Ontario, why are we willing to accept this?!? #onpoli

So it looks like Dougie is taking an extended break and is shutting the Ontario legislature early - ie today. The day before OSBCU is set to request the start of bargaining.
They've spent just 29 days in the legislature this session and have rammed through countless shit bills without giving adequate time for public input, proper committee hearings and all the rest that should go into passing bills.
But that's what you get with first past the post and majority governments.

One of the characteristics of the current right in politics is a hatred of the idea of common wealth — the things and services that citizens own and collectively benefit from. E.g. I may not be able to afford a big lawn for my kids, but collectively we have beautiful parks where all the kids can play.

Here in Ontario, Doug Ford seems really focused on identifying any public wealth we have and finding a way (ethical or not) to convert it to private wealth for his cronies and donors. He’s done it with the Greenbelt, Ontario Place, the Science Centre, and now he’s doing it to the Toronto Island as well as eating away at our public health system. We’ve been able to push him back a couple of times because he still wants to be liked, but he really does seem to be getting worse.

I think it might be a good thing to put people in the mindset of thinking of their wealth as a combination of ‘what I own’ plus ‘what we own together’.

I wonder if politician like Ford were the kids who never learned to share?
