I finally flicked the switch from #bluefin to a custom #nixos flake with #distrobox and #flatpak support in early February. Loving it. There's no going back!

The flake offers a curated basic setup that vibes well with #ublue spins. I'll release it after ironing out a few things and adding an installation ISO.

after #Silverblue => Bluefin-dx rebase the #bluefin #vscode shows an UI with monospace fonts. This does not occur in a fresh VM install of Bluefin. AFAIK vscode does not allow to change fonts of UI. Any ideas...? πŸ€”

The thing I like about using #freedesktop sdk for a base for #Bluefin is yes, it's a #linux distribution.

But fsdk products can guarantee that its purpose will always be application developers since that's the reason it exists. That's what we mean by "distroless". You just talk move the thing that used to be important into CI and then it all becomes about the payload. The libraries application developers need with all the guarantees they expect, with the understand that THEY are the stakeholder, we're sysadmins FOR THEM.

Also for app developers it's the easiest path to SteamOS and Bazzite. This what we mean by "distributions don't matter".

The entire point is for users to not deal with any of this crap.

I just want to say, this experience has been hands down the best #GNOME experience I’ve ever had. The feeling of #bluefin being just not too raw gnome as Fedora, but not too customized as others. It honestly feels like just the right amount of ready to use out of the box.

Some things that still do give me an issue, but I think it’s a gnome issue… opening media from my NAS that I mount through Files. I have to open them directly through the app for them to open.

However, all in. So far, I think this might return me to being a GNOME user.

In general the first day on Bluefin was pretty nice. The approach is way different, and tweaking requires jumping through hoops. Interestingly enough hardly anyone of endusers like to tweak. But the rest 'just works'. In that sense Aeon is possibly better suited, what I adjust is very basic. Fresh and kitty were only available (via homebrew) for macOS. And removing the logout option from the top right hand menu is silly. Although ctrl-alt-del gets you there. A bootc Gnome, with a CachyOS kernel. Is that too much to ask?

Interesting to see Bluefin with Gnome 50.1 is pretty close to KDE in RAM usage now. Which, on the 8Gb laptop, is much appreciated. Eats all I throw at it. Cool.
#bluefin
So trying out #bluefin #linux and I have to say, feels very nice so far.
Grande fim de semana!
Minha bike da Chandan chegou! Coisa linda. Cubo nexus 3 e tal. As ladeiras de SΓ£o Bernardo que me aguardem.
TambΓ©m instalei o Bluefin Dakota no meu notebook. Base GNOME OS. Sensacional, sinto que estou no futuro do Linux.
Ambos, bike e notebook, rodando macios.
