At today's oral arguments before SCOTUS on whether he's eligible to be president ever again, Trump's lawyer claimed that "This was a riot. It was not an insurrection."

Every goddamned journalist who's called it "a riot" for the past 3 years has helped Trump's case. They should all be ashamed of themselves.

@heidilifeldman I’m feeling a sense of doom for our democracy while watching the Supreme Court hear arguments regarding the Trump Ballot Case. I wish we had expanded the Supreme Court as has been suggested to remediate the extreme bias of Trump’s appointed Justices. #trumpballot #supremecourt
With Trump ballot case, the Supreme Court faces biggest election test since Bush v. Gore

A case with the potential to disrupt Donald Trump’s drive to return to the White House is putting the Supreme Court uncomfortably at the center of the 2024 presidential campaign. The justices will hear arguments Thursday in a Colorado case about whether the former president can be kicked off the state's Republican primary ballot because of his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss. At issue is a constitutional provision adopted after the Civil War to prevent former officeholders who “engaged in insurrection” from reclaiming power. The case is the court’s most direct involvement in a presidential election since Bush v. Gore, the decision a quarter-century ago that effectively delivered the 2000 election to Republican George W. Bush.

House Democrats have sent a letter to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas asking him to recuse himself under the Supreme Court's new Code of Conduct, based on his wife Ginni's business interests.

He won't recuse himself, of course; he has no shame or ethics. But he damn well *should*.

#Illinois becomes the latest state to challenge Trump's presence on the ballot.

Attorney Caryn Lederer, whose law firm is representing the bi-partisan group who filed the objection, said in a TV interview, "This case is not about politics. It's about the U.S. Constitution.... We value our Constitutional principles."

Illinois has 15 Electoral College votes, and generally tends to vote blue in Presidential elections. The last time a Republican President won the Electors in Illinois was in 1988 for George H.W. Bush.
