Attorney General Nick Brown today released the following statement on President Trump’s latest unlawful executive order attempting to exert control over elections:

@heidilifeldman Any attorney that has served as Trump’s personal attorney should decline the AG job due to a conflict of interest under the ethics rules, UNLESS they could appoint an independent counsel for matters related to Trump. Such matters would include the entire Epstein affair. I am waiting for news of the appointment of an independent counsel, but not holding my breath.

I know this is being presented as an “acting” appointment but I cannot stress how sickening it is for Trump’s DEFENSE LAWYER to be serving as U.S. Attorney General. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/live/2026/apr/02/trump-white-house-ballroom-republicans-dhs-funding-deal-tariffs-latest-news-updates?CMP=share_btn_url&page=with%3Ablock-69cea59b8f08764b987c9028#block-69cea59b8f08764b987c9028
