I haven't shared with y'all the project that's been keeping me so busy lately: I'm working on a #skoolie conversion!
A skoolie is a bus that has been converted into an RV. Basically a #tinyhouse on wheels. Once it's finished, my plan is to live on my bus full-time so that I don't have to pay rent while in grad school (though my diesel bill will be my new "rent"). Ideally I'll get to travel a bit too!
My bus' name is Fandango. It's a 1999 Ford E-450, with a 7.3L Power Stroke Turbo Diesel (the "Million Mile Engine"!!!)
I purchased Fandango from an artist/woodworker who converted it during COVID and traveled about 30k miles in it around the US with his family. He used a lot of reclaimed and secondhand materials in the build; our shared value of sustainability was one of the major selling points for me, as well as the vintage lockers and cherry wood he used!
It still needs a good amount of work on the inside. The electrical system needs a complete overhaul, for instance, and I'm planning to add some solar panels to the roof. I also wanna tweak the inside layout a tiny bit to better suit my needs.
I'm a bit intimidated by the scale of the project, as I don't have much experience with vehicles or woodworking or plumbing or any of the things. But I've been trying to view the project as an AFGO (Another Fucking Growth Opportunity). It's been fun figuring things out as I go. I own power tools now! And actually find using them rather fun!
As I make more progress, I'll post some photos of the inside of Fandango and maybe some of the conversion process.
