May 22, 1989 was Christmas morning for fans of The Thin White Duke .. Tin Machine released their debut album. It was Bowie teamed with guitarist Reeves Gabrels and brothers Tony Sales on bass and Hunt Sales on Drums and produced some raw, aggressive rock that was a total pivot from Bowie's polished, pop-dance earlier sound of the '80's. Of all the bands influenced by Pixies, Tin Machine don't sound like it (but they did cover Debaser, and David Bowie later covered Cactus):
