Naxatras - GR | E vening Star Records

https://naxatras.bandcamp.com/

Genre: Progressive Psychedelic Rock

FFO: Colour Haze, Hawkwind, My Sleeping Karma, Methadone Skies

Hailing from Greece, Naxatras has been a powerhouse in the world of modern psychedelic rock since their inception in 2012. With a signature sound steeped in the warm, vintage vibes of the '70s, their music weaves together groovy rhythms, dreamy melodies, thunderous riffs, and beautifully captivating guitar solos.

Naxatras has spent over a decade forging a distinctive presence in the hard psych scene. With four critically acclaimed albums under their belt, they have evolved from a predominantly jam-oriented band into one that balances spontaneity with deliberate craftsmanship. This transformation is the natural result of years of touring, artistic exploration, and a steadfast commitment to their unique sound.

In the band’s ever-present mindset of constant experimentation and evolution as a creative process, bits and pieces of ideas and patterns were brewing, waiting for the right time to surface. Now, those fragments have come to life, enriched by the band’s matured approach to songwriting. With a line-up that includes a keyboardist and an expanded percussion arsenal, Naxatras has embraced a multi-layered production, blending their analog warmth with a newfound clarity and complexity. Their new album "V" represents a bold leap forward. The ingredients of the Naxatras sound have been multiplied and their influences broadened, incorporating not just the classic touchstones of 70s progressive rock but also world music and electronic elements, delivering songs that are both tightly constructed and daringly expansive. "V" balances the direct and the adventurous, taking listeners on a journey that is as grounded as it is cosmic. Exploring the saga of the world of Narahmon with the introduction of the Spacekeeper as a new chapter in their mythical lore, the album’s concept narrative reflects a band at the height of its creative powers, pushing boundaries while crafting music that resonates deeply.

𝐔𝐙𝐄𝐃𝐀 is an Italian underground rock quartet formed in 1987 in Catania, Sicily, taking their name from Porta Uzeda, a Baroque city gate in their hometown. Known for their intense, angular sound, often likened to the explosive force of nearby Mount Etna, UZEDA emerged as one of Italy’s most original independent rock acts, navigating the spaces between alternative rock, noise rock, and math-influenced dynamics.

Originally a five-piece, the band’s early activity culminated in the 1991 release of their debut LP “Out of Colours” on A.V. Arts. A tireless touring schedule across Europe, including dates in Italy supporting Lush, helped build a wider underground audience and landed the video for “Hallucinated Games” on regular rotation on Italy’s VideoMusic Channel.

After sending a demo tape to legendary musician-engineer Steve Albini, he agreed to record their second album and traveled to Italy to work with the band. The resulting album, Waters (1993), marked a defining moment in UZEDA’s sound and was internationally championed by British radio legend John Peel, who invited the band to record a session at BBC Maida Vale, one of the few Italian acts ever to do so.

Following the release of “The Peel Sessions” (1994), UZEDA signed to the influential American indie Touch and Go Records, releasing “4” (1995) and “Different Section Wires” (1998). After a period of hiatus in the early 2000s, the band reunited to record “Stella” (2006), again with Albini, for Touch and Go.

In 2019, UZEDA returned with “Quocumque Jeceris Stabit”, released via Overdrive Records in Europe and Temporary Residence Ltd. worldwide, reaffirming their ability to balance visceral power with structural precision and emotional depth.

Over more than three decades, UZEDA have earned a dedicated global following for their uncompromising approach, influential collaborations, and steadfast commitment to artistic independence, traits that have made them a touchstone of the international underground rock scene.

Their decades-long journey and partnership with Steve Albini are documented in the feature film Uzeda – Do It Yourself (dir. Maria Arena, 2024), spotlighting their DIY ethos and impact on alternative music culture.
