Are underwater turbines the answer to how to harness the power of tides?
It certainly looks a lot less disruptive than the full scale tabla power plans/proposals for the Severn Estuary & Morecambe Bay.

It looks though as if batteries weren't included as part of the deployment to even out power supply which seems “peculiar”.

The trade association Ocean Energy Europe says keeping such a large turbine operating in the harsh sea environment that long is a record that demonstrates the technology's commercial viability. Tidal energy technologies are still in the early days of their commercial development, but their potential for generating clean energy is big.
