#NuclearPower ALWAYS costs more than the estimates!

"She added: 'It is astounding that it is only now, as contracts are being signed, that the government has confessed that #SizewellC's cost has almost doubled to an eye watering £38bn - a figure that will only go up.'"

Sizewell C nuclear project cost rises to £38bn

Households will pay £1 a month towards the construction of the UK's second new nuclear power plant.

BBC News
@DoomsdaysCW Cost overruns are caused by having trashed the entire nuclear construction industry over the years. And subcontracting to the lower bidder at every step.
What alternatives do you even have to offer ? Russian gas ? American oil ?

@fcalva Are you kidding? There's #solar, #geothermal, #windpower, #TidalPower, etc., etc. All of those should be developed over gas and oil. Also, NO NUKES FOR AI AND DATACENTERS! Seriously!!! AI and Datacenters are SUCKING UP way more energy than day-to-day living!

#NoNukesForAI #RenewableEnergy #RenewablesNow!

@DoomsdaysCW geothermal is very expensive and has lots of downsides, notably that you can't install much of it.
For the rest, they aren't baseline power, which you need for a stable power grid.
As much as i am against AI and datacenters, if the fad is enough for corpos to invest in nuclear i am not against that. Once the bubble pops, we'll still have the plants.

@fcalva

Wrong

You don't need "baseline" for a
stable lower grid.

@DoomsdaysCW

@The_Sun @DoomsdaysCW How are you going to have power if it's both cloudy and not windy ? Huge amounts of very expensive and short lived batteries ? Very expensive and inneficient pumped storage ?
