Grey

I remember the old Soviet Union being cut up for having only grey skylines and grey buildings. This just showed to the west how boring and drab this country and its allies really were. It was an empire, but boring still.

Clothing styles in the late eighties were also drab in the west. For a few years all it seemed you could get were grey, black and white outfits. Of course there was also acid washed jeans. But very quickly that changed into acid washed black jeans which had many shades of grey and even some white.

I remember coming out of that time in the early nineties, when colours started to make an appearance again. Buying colours was hit and miss because we blatantly didn’t know what colours looked good on us.

Finally my sister dug up an old seasons of colour book from the early 80s. According to this book, I was an autumn and I started to dress accordingly. I don’t know what the other people were doing when it came to wearing colours. The point is we eventually figured out how to wear colours, but it took some dud outfits to get there.

We are in another period of grey, black and white being considered the height of fashion, with very little colour out there.

But this time it is worse. Almost all building colours are shades of grey. You see it in all those home renovation shows. Nearly everything is grey, black and white.

It’s even worse than this of course. They’ve been painting older high rises in my city to be grey, black and white. New high rises are also being made grey, black and white.

Congratulations! We have turned the west into the look of communist Russia. We may have outlasted communist Russia, but their style seems like it will last forever in the look of our buildings and our clothes. I’m just going to say it. The fashion industry is boring. And is doing very little innovating right now.

Colour isn’t all bad. Bring some of it back. In the clothes, in buildings and in our skyline. We look like communist Russia, only with blue jeans.

Agi: Sequestrate pizze precotte in Albania ed etichettate Made in Italy

AGI - Oltre 5mila prodotti alimentari sequestrati nell'ambito di un'inchiesta sul falso Made in Italy saranno devoluti in beneficenza alle Caritas di Barletta, Andria e Trani. Lo ha disposto la Procura della Repubblica di Trani, tramite il Comando provinciale della Guardia di finanza Bat. I beni erano stati sequestrati dai finanzieri del Gruppo Barletta durante controlli doganali al porto cittadino. All'interno di un autoarticolato proveniente dall'Albania sono stati trovati prodotti da forno precotti, in particolare pizze e pinse, con imballaggi e confezioni ritenuti idonei a indurre il consumatore a credere che si trattasse di prodotti di origine italiana.
Dall'esame della documentazione acquisita sono stati individuati i destinatari del carico. Su disposizione della Procura, sono state eseguite perquisizioni nelle province di Napoli, Milano e Reggio Calabria, dove sono stati rinvenuti altri prodotti dello stesso tipo e con analoghe indicazioni ritenute ingannevoli sull'origine.
Le indagini, i reati contestati e la devoluzione in beneficenza
Due le persone indagate: l'autotrasportatore e il destinatario della merce, che avrebbe poi distribuito i prodotti in diverse località italiane, tra cui Napoli. Tra le ipotesi di reato contestate figura l'introduzione nel territorio dello Stato di alimenti con indicazioni o denominazioni di origine contraffatte o comunque idonee a trarre in inganno sull'origine italiana.
Poiché si tratta di alimenti deperibili e prossimi alla scadenza, la Procura ha disposto la devoluzione in beneficenza, destinandoli alle famiglie più bisognose della provincia attraverso le Caritas di Barletta, Andria e Trani.
La consegna dei beni e la tutela del Made in Italy
La consegna è avvenuta nella sede del Comando provinciale della Guardia di finanza. I rappresentanti delle Caritas hanno espresso apprezzamento per l'iniziativa e per la finalità sociale del provvedimento. L'operazione si inserisce nel contrasto alle filiere illecite del falso Made in Italy nel comparto agroalimentare, settore considerato strategico per la tutela delle produzioni nazionali e delle imprese che operano nel rispetto delle regole.

Agi: Putin intitola l'Accademia dei servizi al capo della polizia di Stalin

AGI - Nell'ambito di una lunga e regolare campagna del Cremlino per la riabilitazione di Stalin, il presidente russo, Vladimir Putin, ha dato ordine di rinominare l'Accademia dei Servizi segreti (Fsb) in onore di Felix Dzerzhinsky, fondatore e primo direttore della famigerata Cheka, la polizia segreta sovietica. "Considerato l'eccezionale contributo di F.E. Dzerzhinsky alla sicurezza dello Stato", è la motivazione che si legge nel decreto di Putin. È la prima volta che il leader del Cremlino - anche lui ex studente dell'Accademia dell'Fsb - esprime pubblicamente un giudizio così positivo sulla personalità di "Felix di ferro", figura simbolo della repressione dell'era sovietica, artefice del Terrore Rosso che seguì la Rivoluzione del 1917.
L'Fsb oggi si considera l'erede della Cheka
Il predecessore dell'Accademia dell'Fsb, la Scuola Superiore del Kgb dell'Urss, portò il nome di Dzerzhinsky fino al 1992, quando l'Unione Sovietica non esisteva più. Putin ha espresso rammarico solo poche volte per la rimozione avvenuta nel 1991 dalla Piazza Lubyanka a Mosca, sede del Kgb e poi Fsb, del monumento a Dzerzhinsky; la statua di Felix di Ferro è stata messa 'a riposare' in un giardino di altri monumenti dell'epoca sovietica, vicino al famoso Parco Gorky nella capitale e ora si teme che torni presto nella sua collocazione originaria.
Il Partito comunista della Federazione Russa ha ripetutamente chiesto il ritorno di Dzerzhinsky alla Lubyanka. L'idea sarebbe di rimuovere dalla piazza la Pietra di Solovetsky, il monumento eretto in memoria delle vittime della repressione politica nell'Urss, e riportarvi la statua del fondatore della polizia segreta, tra i responsabili di quelle uccisioni. La rinascita dell'Accademia Dzerzhinsky dell'Fsb "è un evento simbolico importante, che offre un quadro chiaro degli ideali delle persone più potenti della Russia", fa notare la nota giornalista indipendente russa, Farida Rustamova.

Putin names the Stalin-era chief of police academy

In the context of a long and regular Kremlin campaign to rehabilitate Stalin, Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the renaming of the Security Services Academy (FSB) in honor of Felix Dzerzhinsky, founder and first director of the infamous Cheka, the Soviet secret police. “Considering the exceptional contribution of F.E. Dzerzhinsky to the security of the State,” is the justification read in Putin’s decree. It is the first time the Kremlin leader – also a former student of the FSB Academy – has publicly expressed such a positive judgment on the personality of “Iron Felix,” a symbol figure of repression during the Soviet era, the architect of the Red Terror that followed the 1917 Revolution.

The FSB today considers itself the heir of the Cheka.

The predecessor of the FSB Academy, the Superior School of the KGB of the USSR, bore Dzerzhinsky’s name until 1992, when the Soviet Union no longer existed. Putin has expressed regret only a few times regarding the removal in 1991 from Lubyanka Square in Moscow, headquarters of the KGB and then the FSB, of the Dzerzhinsky monument; the statue of Iron Felix was placed ‘in repose’ in a garden of other monuments of the Soviet era, near the famous Gorky Park in the capital and now it is feared that it will soon return to its original location.

The Communist Party of the Russian Federation has repeatedly called for the return of Dzerzhinsky to Lubyanka. The idea would be to remove from the square the Solovetsky Stone, the monument erected in memory of the victims of political repression in the USSR, and to bring back the statue of the founder of the secret police, one of the perpetrators of those killings. The rebirth of the Dzerzhinsky FSB Academy "is an important symbolic event, which offers a clear picture of the ideals of the most powerful people in Russia,” notes independent Russian journalist Farida Rustamova.
