interesting tech moments from hacked data:

- entire infra is down: Jira, Confluence, Git & servers;
- employees shared passwords to each other's office PCs in Telegram;
- awful code quality and low test coverage;
- outdated Win10 in the infra due to sanctions;
- there is a special module that allows to remove someone from the electronic conscription database w/o any trace;
- there is a "УМРИ" (DIE) subdept which chooses whom to remove from database using that module

the story of hacking group breaking into the company who developed russian electronic conscription system is so meta - and shows we should be grateful that this russian filth are so corrupt and rotten to not care about security

Rule of thumb, whenever you are about to type in that people should "just" do something, step away from the keyboard and read up on the situation. If it were a "just" thing it would've happened by now. I know I'm a broken record on this subject, but you can really improve your thinking by just (lol) treating "just" as a signal word you are likely not seeing the whole picture.
I'll die on the hill that "linux phones" will never be a thing unless there are also phones that behave like computers

i.e. having modular drivers and standardised firmware like uefi, that makes the os more or less interchangeable

instead of the thing we have now where every device and device variation needs to have the os be recompiled for their bespoke proprietary soc/firmware/peripheral configuration

the way phones (tbh most arm based machines) work now mean that a device pretty much can only be supported by the oem, as it's simply unrealistic for a third party distro maintainer to support hundreds of devices that each need a different build of the os because each uses a different combination of proprietary drivers and kernel settings to even boot

even for more open stuff - like soc dev boards - you run into the same issue that you have to find a specific build of an os for a raspberry pi, and another specific build for an orange pi or something, even though on paper the devices are extremely similar, you can't just use the os you want, it has to be the os that is available to that device, which more than often is exclusively the os the oem made for the device

can we just have Andy Burnham as Prime Minister already rather than continuing this sharade? would be so much better

thanks to public outcry and pressure, Guan's deportation order has been dropped.

while this is a positive development, the long fight only begins as the asylum case is likely to take several years. he needs to get an asylum fast-tracked, whether in USA or Europe - no matter. anywhere far from the hands of CCP.
