🎬 Maverick dropped the first trailer for Clutch, all cinematic flair, very little gameplay on show, and it's clearly a STORY-driven racer.

Cast highlights: lead Theo Marcial is played by an actor known from "Doctor Who" and "Supergene", his sister is Simbiatu Abisola Abiola Adjikaawo, better known as Little Simz; also starring Peter Serafinowicz and Jane Perry. Open-world CĂ´te d'Azur racing: legal by day and illegal at...

Incomplete recombination suppression fuels extensive haplotype diversity in a butterfly colour pattern supergene

Supergenes can evolve when recombination-suppressing mechanisms like inversions promote co-inheritance of alleles at two or more polymorphic loci that affect a complex trait. This study of the BC supergene in wing color morphs of the butterfly Danaus chrysippus reveals dynamic evolution of supergene haplotypes, fueled by incomplete recombination suppression.

Our new paper testing long-standing hypotheses on the genetic causes and genomic consequences of distyly breakdown is now out advance access in MBE https://academic.oup.com/mbe/advance-article/doi/10.1093/molbev/msae087/7665594?utm_source=advanceaccess& Thanks to all coauthors! #evolgen #evolution #Darwin #genomics #supergene #distyly #heterostyly
Genetic causes and genomic consequences of breakdown of distyly in Linum trigynum

Abstract. Distyly is an iconic floral polymorphism governed by a supergene, which promotes efficient pollen transfer and outcrossing through reciprocal dif

Supergene research solves the mystery of tiny ant queens

An ant colony is sustained through complex social dynamics, with each member—the queen, males and workers (sterile females)—contributing to the greater community. Some species add complexity to this dynamic with the addition of rather small queens.

Now there are six cases of independently evolved distyly supergene that are hemizygous in thrums, in contrast to the classical genetic model for distyly.

Very happy to be giving a talk at the University of Cambridge cross-departmental evolution and development seminar series next week! I will talk about the evolution and loss of distyly supergenes. #Linum #supergene #ConvergentEvolution #ERC

Fascinating. Possibly a real-life X-Men type mutation in a single generation.

"The work showed that a single mutation in a supergene was sufficient to produce the full suite of changes observed in the obligate parasites, even before the ants were split by speciation."

A Mutation Turned Ants Into Parasites in One Generation | Quanta Magazine

A new genetics study of ant “social parasites” shows how complex sets of features can emerge rapidly and potentially split species.

A caste differentiation mutant elucidates the evolution of socially parasitic ants

Trible et al. report a variant strain of the clonal raider ant that expresses queen-like traits in individuals that would normally become workers. These obligately parasitic variants have a mutated supergene and arose directly from their free-living parent strain, suggesting a genetic mechanism for the evolution of ant workerless social parasites.

#introduction
Hi! I'm an #ant biologist and working as a postdoc with Buck Trible at Harvard. Beyond ants, I'm interested in #Supergene evolution, #PhenotypicPlasticity, and #Adaptations. When I'm not staring at sequence data or mounting ants, I like to read SF/F novels, hike, and play #DandD. Currently playing Pokemon Scarlet with my partner and eagerly awaiting the next chapter of My Hero Academia. Also, I've been learning to bookbind so send me cool binding patterns if you see them!
