It will be hosted once again at #WellandCommunityOrchard from 11-3pm.
You're welcome to bike, or to try your luck at getting one of the parking spots. If you do not have mobility concerns or require transport of things such as strollers & walkers, consider avoiding trying to park right at the orchard. There's some street parking near the orchard as well, we just ask that you be concious of the neighbours. This year we will have a free shuttle bus from our warehouse at 808A Viewfield Rd out to Welland Orchard to alleviate the limited parking. It will make the following trips:

Come out for a family friendly day of celebrating the harvest! We'll be giving away plenty of fruit, pressing fresh apple cider, our heritage apple tasting table will be back & we will have a #seedbomb making table as well as a #ScavengerHunt for the kids.

What does a #SolarPunk & #Lunarpunk reality look, feel, taste, smell and hear like? Well here's some tips for incorporating more of it into your life:

🐝Joining your local #CommunityGarden #FoodForest #Permaculture Project. It's incredibly nourishing to grow fresh fruits, herbs and veggies while saying hello and getting to know the folks who live around you. You may even make new friends 😉

🌱setting up simple #hydroponic gardens with a UV lamp connected to a solar panel or other electrical source is easy, cost effective a fun way to foster fresh herbs, fruits & veggies from your immediate home surroundings. Good for dimmer kitchens, balconies and backyards and helps in the winter months with seasonal depression.

👗Try to buy #SecondHand before buying new. There's an abundance of clothing, furniture, electronics etc. in our world, all made with human time and creativity just going to the trash 🗑️. So check apps like Vinted, eBay, #BuyNothingGroups , Craigslist or visit your local flea market, clothing swaps or 2nd hand shop to find these pre-loved items. The fun is in the hunt. And if you can find it, make it! Or learn from a skilled craftsperson to show you how to recycle ♻️ and repair your old items. Puts the DIY in SolarPunk.

🌿 #GuerillaGarden those forgotten small plots of earth around city trees and between intersections, that would love a wild flower 🌹 or two. Dropping a #SeedBomb or spreading some seeds of local plants helps the local ecosystem reach places beyond it's wildest dreams and attracts bees 🐝 butterflies 🦋 and other insects. Consider creating an insect hotel and adding that too!

If you're seed bombing with non-native plants, please be mindful of not spreading invasives. Saying fuck you to a golf course by planting things that also kill or crowd out native species is literally no different than the course itself.

"But it's edible" "But it's medicinal" "doesn't matter, its #permaculture bro"

Those are settler arguments of pragmatism, and are frankly the same shit that got us Here™️ in the first place. Please, slow the fuck down, research natives, especially ones that grow not just in your "zone" but also the specifics of the area you're doing said seed bombing. Ones that NATIVE pollinators eat, live on, etc. Check back in on your shit. Otherwise, it just ends up being performative, or a cool story, or even harmful if invasives are involved. The time, slowness, and intention will make it all the more powerful.

There are a lot of folks doing this work. These are Indigenous understandings that unfortunately have been largely lost or watered down due to genocide, and therefore, are difficult to find clear information on.

If you want to go deeper, you can see which invertibrates are at-risk in your area, figure out what they like to eat, lay eggs, live on, and plant some of that.
