DoomsdaysCWSo, first night I'm able to leave the seedlings on the 3-season porch and the more established plants on the steps. Things may change later next week, so holding off on planting my potatoes until that's over with. I should have the fence set-up by this weekend. I'm growing extra flowers for the #CommunityGarden per the organizer's request.

43 volunteers kicked off the 2026 growing season at the Eastpointe Community Garden, planting 13 Giving Garden beds in just 90 minutes. New irrigation timers, a trellis install, compost donations, and Ferlito's pizza rounded out one of our biggest garden parties ever.

I believe they inherit the memory of their ancestors’ unsuccessful nest building in our plastic garden tool storage bench, and of the failed nest having been moved to the wooden wasp house nearby.
This wasp queen was hovering near the tool bench before deciding to go into the wasp house. They can learn, but it seems to take a few generations. 🏠🐝✨

Last week
Heather, Helen and David harvested four crates of beautiful fresh veggies for the Duke St Community House Food Relief Program. It was a really productive session.

This is a great article about Unity Gardens, a massive #CommunityGarden project in the town where I was raised. They have over 40 gardens throughout town that are open to anyone to ensure the free fresh fruits and veggies are available for all. They also have an orchard and an apiary. Everything is volunteer run and welcoming. I would like to see this idea spread!
