I'm running with another grassroots community building/community sharing idea. This will be implemented in about August & run into early September.

My idea:

A neighbourhood arts & crafts public show with live demos, in our front & back yards. Neighbours can display their own arts & crafts for viewing. I would set up a kids creative station, where kids can create what they want & have fun with free arts/crafts with other neighbourhood kids. There would be live arts/crafts demos & some workshops for people to create something.

I'll contact local businesses & obtain donations for supplies needed. I'll seek community grant funding too, so I can make it an annual or bi-annual neighbourhood community event 😊

You can reach out to your local intercultural association/organization, to get information on how to volunteer & help out newcomers/immigrants in your local area. There's always a need for more volunteers in the community to assist new immigrants to settle into their new lives.

In Victoria, we have the longtime Intercultural Association. Volunteers are needed, year round.

One of my newer, younger neighbours (my Mom & her Mom became friends) came by to talk to me yesterday. She asked if I'm open to doing a brief presentation/mini workshop for our neighbourhood community in early June. I've agreed to teach a free frugal gardening mini workshop & will give away some free supplies for newbies to get started well. I pitched starting a neighbourhood seeds sharing library too because many people avoid the downtown area so they don't visit Victoria Seed Library, which is in the Central Victoria public library. She's keen on having a smaller community seeds library & is working on writing a community grant for that & for us to do more neighbourhood community building work.

It's wonderful to be approached by a neighbour, who is wanting to actively collaborate on closer community building, right in our 'hood. Community grassroots collaborations sparks joy for me 😃💗
