Dear #ScienceFedi, is there an up-to-date list somewhere of scientific journals that do not require article processing charges and ideally are also #OpenAccess?

It's wild to me that authors or their institutions have to *pay* for the privilege of their important scientific work being published somewhere.

Thank you!

SCIENCE-STEM Starter Pack 🧵

Please share some good science and STEM accounts to follow. Asking for a friend.

I'll tag some of my faves in the comments as I run across them in my feed, so this will be on ongoing thread.

We should take this as an opportunity to ask — WHY?

And — how could we improve things on the Fediverse to be attractive to scientists?

...

BTW, I was part of Science-Twitter, back when I used to be active on Twitter. And, wanted to be part of a Science-Fedi, too.

So, this affected me, too.

"Back in my day, there were only four layers of Earth: the crust, mantle, liquid outer core and solid inner core. Now, scientists have revealed a new, distinct layer within our planet’s inner core, which could help inform the evolution of Earth’s magnetic field."

Cool!

Scientists have discovered a new core at the center of the Earth

A pair of seismologists documented new evidence of a fifth layer: a 400-mile-thick solid metallic ball at the center of Earth’s inner core — like the smallest figurine of a massive, planetary Russian nesting doll set.
