Music Of Nubia by Hamza El Din , released on Vanguard in 1964.

Haunting work from Hamza El Din – a spare album that mostly features work on the oud, that mystical instrument that has a short plucked stringy kind of sound. There's also vocals on a few tracks, and one number features guest bass work by Ahmed Abdul Malik, and another features bongos by Sandy Bull. Titles include "Fegir Nedan", "Kuto Fa Pattaroni", "Nubala", and "Nabra" - Disty Groove

Ended Wednesday and welcomed Thursday after a swim with Time No Changes by Chris Schlarb & Chad Taylor, released on Astral Spirits in 2021.

''Taylor, of course, is best known for his work with Rob Mazurek in the Chicago Underground Duo — though that long-running project is just the very tip of the iceberg when it comes to his ongoing explorations...

With Schlarb on 6- and 12-string acoustic guitars (plus subtle keyboard accents) and Taylor on drums (plus mbira interludes), the most obvious touchstones for Time No Changes are Sandy Bull and Billy Higgins’ collaborations, which fearlessly crossed currents and blew minds back in the 1960s. With sharp simplicity, Bull called those long improvisations Blends;.."

Fantasias for Guitar and Banjo is the debut album of the folk guitarist Sandy Bull, released in 1963 through Vanguard Records.
Recording

Bull recorded the album accompanied by Billy Higgins, a session jazz drummer who had previously appeared on early Ornette Coleman records.

The highlight of Fantasias for Guitar and Banjo is usually considered to be its opener "Blend", a lengthy improvisational piece. According to Bull, the ideas behind the piece originated from his admiration of Folkways Records, which documented ethnic music from across the world. He also claimed to being particularly inspired from hearing Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan in New York City.[3] "Blend" has been viewed as a "virtual travelogue of styles done in a then revolutionary modal tuning" - Wikipedia

SANDY BULL
Inventions
1965 U.S. pressing

One of the most shockingly talented instrumentalists ever.

I listen to this record a LOT, particularly when I just need to chill and relax after a long day.

This copy is still in phenomenal shape after all these years.

Just a great record, as are ALL of his records.
