lol they just sent me this extremely Seattle picture of me doing the opposite of bombing hills, going very slowly up them. I do that a lot too
Brake kept rubbing and making squealing/scraping noises so I got it checked out and apparently it's because the pad was... nonexistent. Oops.
The amazingly helpful mechanic at Cycles & Coffee let me watch the replacement process and showed me how to check for wear in the future, how to reset pistons without ruining the caliper etc.
That shop and 20/20 Cycle are my two favorites in the city, for a lot of reasons. Definitely recommend supporting either or both when you're in Seattle and need repairs, parts, and accessories. The Bikery is great too, volunteer run and donation based, but they're only open on weekends
I'm definitely going back out tomorrow, it's apparently going to be cool and dry-ish and I want to get back in the habit before it gets really nice out. I'm glad I met bike punks in the 00's that taught me to ride defensively (and maybe offensively sometimes), be aware of everything going on, react immediately, and take space when I need to -- actually take, because cars often won't give it to you
I've had close calls a lot while riding my bike in the city, but I usually see what the car's doing and adjust accordingly and it's fine. Today though a car blew through the red light on a busy street (Boren) that intersects a huge hill (Pine) as I was flying down it at full speed, and I didn't see it until I was a few feet away. Those are the scary close calls.
When the weather gets nice everyone goes outside, but a lot of them do that by driving. More cars mean more dangerous drivers; be safe out there
