@HopelessDemigod well, DM&P does pull off legacy designs in embedded and Industrial with their #Vortex86 series going down to #i486SX.

• Obviously if they didn't sell passively-cooled SOMs on older structural widths, they could in theory kick this beyond 4 GHz.

It's just that there are very few workloads that need absurdly-fast, single-threaded performance* and ain't designed for #POWER9 / #OpenPOWER or #s390x / #zArchitecture mainframes.

• Like it's cheaper to just get an #embedded multicore with like 4x1,5GHz that maxes out at 15W and can be confogured down to 4W and will be overall more responsive and faster in any other workload.

And the few workloads that ain't multithreaded may be coaxed into it with like #vmware #ESXi mashing together multiple hardware threads into one superfast single thread, but I'd say that the vestigal compatibility of like an i7-6700K should potentially work fine, and worst-case one just setsit up to only use 1C/1T and constantly turbo-boost @ 91W TDP…

닷넷은 8.0이후로 Microsoft만이 아니라, Canonical, RedHat 등 각 리눅스 배포판 관리자들이 Microsoft를 대신하여 본인들의 배포판 OS에서 잘 작동할 수 있도록 검증 과정을 거쳐 독자적으로 빌드하여 패키징을 하고 있습니다.

그 덕분에 매우 유의미한 발전이 하나 있었는데, IBM 메인프레임 (s390x)과 IBM PowerPC (ppc64el)에서도 우분투 리눅스를 사용하면 이제 닷넷 10을 아주 손쉽게 apt install dotnet-sdk-10.0 명령어 하나로 바로 설치해서 쓸 수 있게 됩니다.

The #s390x open source software team at IBM confirms the latest versions of various software packages run well on #Linux on #IBMZ & #LinuxONE 🐧

In October 2025 validation was maintained for two dozen projects, including #ApacheActiveMQ #InfluxDB & #Rails 🎉

We also on-boarded libdfp & qsv to our new hosted GitHub Actions runners, and saw Rarr add CI and VictoriaTraces begin releasing binaries 🎁

Either someone found the vanilla #linux-next builds fpr #s390x useful, which I enabled a few days ago in my #Fedora Linux #copr[1] – or it was just some AI crawler that made the number in the download stats go up from 0 to 32. 🤷
