@bindureddy benchmarks say one thing, prod traffic says another. flash wins on cheap routing for high-volume agent loops, but anthropic still cleans up on long-context tool use. depends what 'chat' means to you.

Announcing OMT Router — a client‑side routing library that builds #routing graphs from #OpenMapTiles vector tiles and computes routes + isolines in the browser. Zero‑backend, multi‑engine, AI-driven, and a custom control for easy #MapLibre integration. https://abelvm.github.io/omt-router/
OMT Router — Client-side routing & isolines for OpenMapTiles

OMT Router runs routing and isolines entirely in-browser from OpenMapTiles—no server required; includes a drop-in MapLibre control.

A router works at Layer 3, using destination IP addresses to move traffic between networks, while often adding services like NAT, firewall rules, VPN access, and DHCP.

Here is a quick overview of common router functions 😎👇

OSRM's trip plugin is getting a proper solver upgrade: PR in review now.

For small trips (< 15 stops), we now run Held-Karp DP which is exact optimal. Larger trips get optimised. The old heuristic is gone for good.

Also shipping a static trip.html demo alongside it.

OSM-based routing without live traffic works until it doesn't, usually when a customer is staring at an ETA that's 20 minutes wrong on a Tuesday at 8 am.

@ianthetechie on how we closed that gap with TomTom traffic: global coverage, ~2 minute latency, and historical profiles for predictive routing.

Why Basic OpenStreetMap Routing Needs Real-Time Traffic

OpenStreetMap is a world-class road network, but without real-time traffic it's a static dataset. Here's why algorithmic ETAs fall apart in production logistics and how Stadia Maps closes the gap with TomTom-powered routing.

Blue is close. Dark red is the edge. The road network density just shows itself.

Tiny tool, real purpose. Getting left/right-hand traffic right is foundational for improving worldwide driving profiles. More coming.

Axios used OSRM to analyze how far millions of Americans would need to drive to register to vote under the proposed SAVE Act — routing every 5-mile cell in the U.S. to its nearest elections office.

Their finding: 5M+ voting-age Americans would face 1+ hour drives. The average: ~20 minutes.

Open-source routing, real-world impact. 🗺️

SAVE Act would mean long drives for millions of American voters

Many Americans would have to drive an hour or more to present their citizenship documents.

OpenStreetMap is the best global road dataset we have. It's designed to capture stable ground truth, not data that's out of date the moment it's recorded.

Routing engines fill that gap with proxies: road class, tagged speed limits, urban-vs-rural density, time-of-day buckets. Those work until they don't.

@ianthetechie on how we landed: TomTom on top of OSM, historical profiles, matrix routing.
